Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher took to social media to mock Rio Ferdinand following Manchester United’s 2-0 win over Villarreal tonight. United caretaker boss Michael Carrick led the Red Devils to a 2-0 win over Villarreal in the Champions League in his first match in charge. The victory means United have qualified for the knockout stages with one game left in the group.
Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring with 12 minutes of the match remaining.
Jadon Sancho then sealed the victory late on with his first goal for the club since his £73million arrival from Borussia Dortmund.
As United’s win was confirmed, Carragher mimicked former United defender Ferdinand with a tweet.
Carragher wrote: “Man Utd might not thank me, but get the contract out put it on the table & let him sign it, let him right (sic) whatever numbers he wants, let him sign the contract. Carrick’s at the wheel man!”
The post was clearly mocking Ferdinand for what he said on live TV about former United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer two-and-a-half years ago.
Ferdinand made the same statement following United’s comeback win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League in the 2018/19 campaign when Solskjaer was only interim boss.
United swiftly made Solskjaer their permanent manager but the Norwegian was unable to bring the glory days back to Old Trafford.
Solskjaer failed to lead United to any silverware before he was sacked by the club on Sunday.

Carragher has been strongly critical of United in recent months and has hit out at their lack of planning following Solskjaer’s dismissal.
Mauricio Pochettino is the favourite to replace Solskjaer but the club intend to appoint an interim manager first.
Writing in his column for The Times this week, Carragher cannot understand the approach United have taken.
He wrote: “There is only one word to sum up Manchester United’s handling of the final months of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign: shambolic.
“Anyone writing a manual about how to go about replacing a football manager should find the current events at Old Trafford useful.
“Simply observe how they are going about it and do the opposite.
“There is a breathtaking incompetence in the fact a club of such stature announced it is prepared to appoint two interim managers in the hope circumstances eventually go their way and they will get their No 1 target – presumably Mauricio Pochettino.
“We are still less than a third of the way through a Premier League campaign and Manchester United are indicating they want to see it through with two caretakers? That is astonishing.”
