Jose Mourinho refuses to comment on Gareth Bale after West Ham ruin Spurs return

Jose Mourinho refused to comment on Gareth Bale's second Tottenham debut after West Ham ruined his homecoming.

Bale was introduced in the second half with Spurs in cruise control after racing into a 3-0 lead after just 16 minutes.

But West Ham scored a quick-fire double less than five minutes from time before Bale missed a golden opportunity to kill the game with a fourth.

That gave the Hammers hope and Manuel Lanzini struck a stunning effort deep into stoppage time to snatch a point and cap off a late collapse.

Jose Mourinho was left frustrated after the game – and he was keen to praise West Ham rather than commenting on Bale after his first game back for the club.

Asked about Bale's return by beIN Sports after the game, Mourinho said: "Before the game you want to speak about Gareth and after the game you want to speak about Gareth.

"But in the end it's about Tottenham-West Ham and that's more important."

Mourinho was also left to rue Bale's opportunity and a miss from Harry Kane which could have made it 4-0.

Asked if he saw things he was not happy with, Mourinho told Sky Sports: "I will find things and I found already just by analysing the game from the touchline.

"But some of the things are completely out of the context.

"It's once more an indirect free-kick, a lateral free-kick, then the own goal, then the next goal again is a free-kick, a rebound and an incredible shot.

"The context of the game, the game was under control, we had a chance for Harry Kane to score the fourth when he hit the post, we had Gareth's chance to kill the game in his action also.

"With the space they were giving us the game was more towards the fourth goal than other things but that's football and we were punished."
