Leeds United have been handed a clear path to completing a £21.2million transfer move for Nahitan Nandez after Tottenham pulled out of a deal. Nandez looks set to leave Serie A side Cagliari this summer, with several clubs chasing his signature.

Spurs have mainly recruited from the Italian market in tis summer’s window, following the appointment of Fabio Paratici as managing director of football.

Paratici has brought in both Pierluigi Gollini and Cristian Romero from Atalanta, as well as eyeing a move for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez.

But with Nuno Espirito Santo requiring reinforcements in midfield, the former Juventus chief is set to turn to another Serie A club.

Uruguayan international Nandez has spent two years with Cagliari since joining the Isolani from Boca Juniors.

He was a key part of Leonardo Semplici’s side last season as they secured survival in the Italian top-flight.

Champions Inter had been linked with a move but according to Calciomercato, their signing of Denzel Dumfries means the pursuit of Nandez has come to an “abrupt stop”.

Though Nandez is said to want to move to the San Siro, a deal to join a Premier League club now appears to be more likely.

But while Tottenham have been linked with the 25-year-old, the report states that they are denying any potential move for Nandez.

That has reopened the door to a move to Elland Road, with the Whites still in the market for a midfielder.

They were linked earlier in the window and it is stated that the withdrawals of Inter and Spurs means they could now return to Nandez.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men are facing competition from West Ham though, with the East Londoners said to be showing a “great interest” in the midfielder.

The Premier League rivals have been given a further boost in their hopes of signing the Uruguayan star.

Calciomercato state that he has a £30.5m release clause in his contract, but Cagliari are willing to drop that as low as £21.2m in order to push through a transfer.
