Leeds United are facing stiff competition from rivals Manchester United in their efforts to sign Arsenal youngster Sam Greenwood.
The Whites are gearing up for their long-awaited return to the Premier League after a 16-year gap and know they need to strengthen the squad.
Marcelo Bielsa has identified several potential targets this summer but is yet to get any significant deals over the line.
Behind the scenes there are concerted efforts to sign Dani van den Heuvel, Joe Gelhardt and Charlie Allen in the coming days.
But another player Leeds have been looking at signing is Gunners teenager Greenwood, who is said to be the next bright prospect coming out of the Arsenal academy.
According to The Athletic , a deal to move to Elland Road could be done next week, if the Red Devils do not hijack the transfer.
Greenwood could set suitors back around £3million with add-ons, which could turn out to be pennies in the future.
The report claims the 18-year-old expected to be part of the Under-23 team before hopefully making his mark in the first team in the future.
Greenwood’s preferred position is centre-forward but he has been known to play out wide at times.
The Sunderland-born player, who has drawn comparisons with Robin van Persie for his technique, has played for England at youth level, earning a place in Steve Cooper’s Under-17 squad for the European Championships.
Meanwhile, Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has conceded that Ryan Kent will “probably” sign for for Leeds if the Premier League new boys increase their bid.
