Lineker can be grumpy for 12 hours a day, says Match of the Day’s Micah Richards

Gary Lineker is so grumpy that Micah Richards has to spend 12 hours a day cheering him up.

Match Of The Day host Lineker gets in a mood when his struggling former side Leicester lose. Ex-Man City defender Richards said it is left to him to give him a boost. The 34-year-old – known for his cheery nature – said it can be a long day on MOTD with Walkers Crisps ad star Lineker and fellow pundit Alan Shearer.

Richards, right, said: "If, say, Gary has come in and had a s*** day and he’s just sat there like this."

He added: "I’m like, ‘Alright Gazza?’ And he goes, ‘Yeah, alright, yeah’." Richards said on the Match Of The Day podcast: "I’m thinking ‘Give me something back or what, I need something from you’."

He added: "I’ve become the guy who gets the energy up. So if I’ve had a bad day, I’ve got to act for 12 hours to get these idiots up." Shearer said: “You’ve got to be good at something – your analysis is s***."

Lineker, Richards and Shearer are usually all in good spirits, though, whether it be on Match of the Day or their spin-off podcast.

Former England international Richards left Lineker in stitches earlier this week after revealing the worst decision he made during his playing career.

Richards explained that during his time at City he had turned down a five-and-a-half year deal worth £100,000-per-week because he was second choice in his position at the time.

In a bid to defend his decision, Richards protested: "Yeah exactly. Because I was number two behind [Pablo] Zabaleta. So I'm not all about the money."

The revelation had both Lineker and Shearer in tears with laughter before Richards added: "The worst decision I ever f***ing made!"
