Lionel Messi’s camp has apparently begun to turn on Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino and have doubts about his tactical ability and gameplan. PSG have whimpered to back-to-back Ligue 1 draws and have looked far from convincing in recent weeks.

Messi joined the Parisians in the summer after departing Barcelona following a 21-year association with the Catalan club.

But he has failed to hit his usual heights in France and has scored just one league goal all season.

Messi has only started eight of his side’s league games and is struggling to find form under his compatriot.

And, according today’s edition of L’Equipe, Messi’s entourage believe Pochettino’s tactics are too restrictive.

Messi’s form for PSG didn’t prevent him winning this year’s Ballon d’Or, however, as he won the accolade for a record seventh time at last week’s ceremony.

The 34-year-old has already written his place into football history as one of the greatest players to ever walk the earth.

Pochettino arrived at Parc des Princes in January but failed to win the Ligue 1 title last season as his team finished a point behind shock champions Lille.

It was just the second time in the last nine years that the Parisians weren’t able to get their hands on the trophy.

PSG have stormed to the top of the table this season, however, courtesy of 13 victories and are already nine points ahead of second-placed Rennes.

But the side have struggled in the Champions League and have won just two of their opening five games of this season’s competition.

Last month they were second best throughout as they were defeated 2-0 by Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Despite their indifferent form in Europe, PSG have still managed to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition, as they are four points clear of RB Leipzig and Club Brugge with one game remaining.

Pochettino has been linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks following the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils appointed Ralf Rangnick as their interim boss last week, but the German is set to move to a behind-the-scenes consultancy role at the end of the season.

That could pave the way for Pochettino to make the move back to the Premier League. The 49-year-old has been admired by United chiefs for some time.

Poch already has plenty of Premier League experience, having spent five years as Tottenham boss following a year-and-a-half spell at Southampton.

During his time in north London, Pochettino led the team to the Champions League final, where they were defeated by Liverpool – but he never won a trophy with the Lilywhites.
