Liverpool have been told that they are one of only two clubs capable of signing PSG striker Kylian Mbappe. The Frenchman has denied claims that he wants to leave the club before the end of the season, though speculation still surrounds the forward’s future.
Reports have claimed that Mbappe is unhappy at Le Parc des Princes and with their transfer business, despite penning a new deal with the club over the summer. There have also been suggestions that promises were not kept about how he will be deployed, favouring a left-wing role over a striker one.
Real Madrid were keen to sign Mbappe over the summer and were his likely destination if the player didn’t have a change of heart over a new deal and are therefore likely to be contenders to secure his signature once more if he departs. Though Liverpool have also been long-term admirers of the former Monaco star and could sign him because they are able to afford his ‘price tag and wages’.
Gianluca Di Marzio told Wettfreunde: “I don’t think PSG, who decided to turn down €180m last year when the contract had six months left, would let him go in the same situation. Because they decided to found a brand with him. Kylian’s image, for PSG, for the World Cup in Qatar. We all know how important it is for PSG owners to have Kylian in this team.
“Although Kylian might be disappointed now because of some false promises. I don’t know if it’s true that PSG didn’t do what Kylian wanted. I don’t think a player should decide the club’s strategies. The club has to decide that. The club pays the player and he is paid very well. He has the sporting director he wanted. He wanted Leonardo out and Leonardo was out.
“Even if what I read is true, I don’t think PSG will let him go. Not Real Madrid, not Liverpool. No, in general. A player like Mbappe is difficult to sell in January. We saw what happened with Kylian last summer and I think Mbappe is unlikely to leave PSG in January after the World Cup. I don’t think it’s possible, even though Real Madrid and Liverpool are the only two clubs that can afford his salary and have the ability to pay PSG.”

Liverpool have struggled so far this season but will hope that their 1-0 victory over title favourites Manchester City will help them get their campaign back on track. In the final third, the Reds have struggled and the cutting edge provided by Mbappe would certainly make them one of the most frightening strike forces in Europe.
However, Jurgen Klopp’s most pressing issue remains in midfield. The German boss is working with an ageing crop of players in the centre of the park, with reports suggesting that he is waiting to launch a bid to sign Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham at the end of the season – which would cost them the majority of their transfer budget.
