Liverpool are expected to be active in the January transfer window, but they’re linked with selling stars as well as bringing some in, but one defender could be the key to signing a player admired by Jurgen Klopp.

It was a quiet and rather inexpensive summer for Liverpool compared to their Premier League title rivals, although they have been as prolific as ever this season due to the return of many of their stars due to injury.

Ibrahima Konate was the only new signing, as Liverpool splashed £36million to secure the defender from RB Leipzig, but the Reds are expected to be more active in the upcoming January transfer window.

With Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane potentially departing for the Africa Cup Of Nations in January should the competition still go ahead, Liverpool will be short of attacking options in a crucial part of their season.

However, one of Liverpool’s defenders has been attracting a lot of interest, and he could be used a potential makeweight as Klopp eyes a January move.

Liverpool have been targeting potential January acquisitions to cover in attack for Salah and Mane, and Jarrod Bowen has been a name consistently linked with a move to Anfield.

The 24-year-old also starred as West Ham handed Liverpool their only defeat of the season so far, and following the game Klopp said: “I like Bowen a lot. He made his way up from Hull and took not too long to show exactly what kind of player he can be in the Premier League. He made big steps.”

It has emerged that West Ham are interested in a move for Liverpool defender Nat Phillips, who has fallen down the pecking order after being handed a senior role last season, due to injuries elsewhere.

According to the Evening Standard. David Moyes is keen to bring in a new defender next month after both Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma suffered long-term injuries, and Phillips has emerged as a cut-price candidate.

Phillips was excellent for Liverpool last season, and steered them to third place during an injury crisis, but the Reds do not want to loan out the defender, and are instead holding out for £10m to see him go permanently.

However, with West Ham interested, it gives Liverpool some bargaining tools as they could use it to their advantage should they seek a move for Bowen, and could include the defender in any deal with the Hammers.

If Liverpool were to offer a player plus cash deal for Bowen, West Ham would not have to reach into their pocket, and although the England international is having a good season, they may be keeping a close eye on Jesse Lingard in the near future.

West Ham could cash in on Bowen, and go all out to secure a deal for Lingard with the funds raised, or wait until the summer when he would become a free agent.

Lingard starred on loan at West Ham last season, and revived his career following his move to the London Stadium in January.

Despite many rumours suggesting that Lingard may stay, he returned to Manchester United to fight for his place, a decision that has so far proved unsuccessful.

Lingard’s deal expires at the end of the season, and West Ham would welcome him back with open arms, and the England international is extremely fond of his time in the capital.

Phillips could be the makeweight in many potential moves taking place, and a deal could benefit all parties following a domino effect of movement.
