Liverpool fans go wild as Jurgen Klopp picks Naby Keita vs West Ham – ‘What a team’

Liverpool fans rejoiced at Naby Keita’s inclusion in the starting line up against West Ham on Monday night. A position opened up for the Guinea international following a hamstring injury to captain Jordan Henderson.

Klopp confirmed another one of his central midfielders would be given a shot, with Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the running.

Keita pipped his competitors to the spot, though, which led to wild celebrations from Liverpool fans online.

Following the club’s tweet confirming the starting XI, the mentions were filled with a common theme.

Two separate tweets simply shouted the former RB Leipzig man’s name, reading “NABYYYY” and “KEITAAAA”.

Another fan confident in his side, who need just five more wins to seal their first Premier League title since 1990, posted: “What a team.”

Keita has contended with injury problems since arriving at Anfield last season but a number of fans are eager to see him be given opportunities now he’s fully fit.

“Give naby full 90 cheers x,” pleaded one fan.

“NABY SZN STARTS NOW,” read another excited tweet, while one Kopite channelled his inner Cristiano Ronaldo and predicted: “SIUUUUU KEITA MASTERCLASS INCOMING.”

Keita was slotted alongside stalwarts Fabinho and Georginio Wijnaldum in the midfield three, which was happily welcomed by supporters far and wide.

“THAT MIDFIELDDDDDDDDD,” lusted one fan, while their peer urged: “What a midfield, lets get that 3 points lad.”

One particular tweet even disparaged Henderson, despite him being primed for the PFA Player of the Year award.

“Guys I love when Naby Keita starts, I just hope he’s done with the injuries because I hate Henderson,” opined one fan.

Other posts were more diplomatic, such as: “Nabs in for Hendo injured. Expecting Keita to boss this game. Come on you beautiful Reds!”

Klopp does not expect relegation candidates West Ham to fold over at Anfield and issued a rallying cry in his matchday programme notes.

“What will be critical for us this evening is the support from our greatest asset of all – the Anfield crowd,” he wrote.

“It’s a Monday night and it’s under the lights. It’s been a break since we were all here last and I think that adds to the hunger.

“But most important is that our supporters recognise just how much we need them. They have played a huge role in giving us the base we have currently. Now – like the players – it’s about upping the game for the decisive period.

“Anfield will be ready to perform, as they and the team have done until now, to the highest level imaginable.

“Tonight is a good time I think to show the hunger we have collectively to achieve things at the end of this season. We all recognise there is work to do – lots of work to do. We can only affect and impact the next game.

“Therefore everyone who loves Liverpool inside the ground tonight should make sure we give everything we have for this fixture.”
