Chelsea new boy Timo Werner opened the scoring in Germany’s 1-1 draw with Spain last night – leaving Liverpool fans absolutely gutted that they didn’t sign him this summer.
Werner, 24, was heavily linked with a move to Anfield earlier this year, only for the Merseyside club to pull out of a potential deal due to financial concerns amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Jurgen Klopp reportedly called the striker personally to let him know they would not be making a move in the summer window, allowing Chelsea to swoop in and secure a £54million deal with RB Leipzig
And following his impressive finish against Spain on Thursday, the Liverpool faithful have slammed their owners on Twitter for pulling the plug.
One wrote: “Werner is going to score so many goals in the Premier League”.
“Why did @LFC not sign Werner. What a player,” asked another.
A third Reds fan commented: “Safe to admit that I am gutted that Werner isn't going to be our player going forward. Chelsea have got a talented player there”.
“Every time Timo Werner scores I hate our owners even more. He was absolutely perfect for us,” said another user.
While one admitted: “I keep trying to convince myself Werner will flop in the PL, but he really won’t. Fantastic signing for Chelsea and will 100% make them more of a threat.”
Plenty of expectation has followed Werner to Chelsea after his impressive return of 34 goals in 45 appearances for Leipzig last term.
He is one of several big-money signings to have arrived at Stamford Bridge this summer, with Hakim Ziyech (£36million), Ben Chilwell (£50million) and Thiago Silva (free) also joining Frank Lampard’s side.
