Liverpool handed Mbappe transfer boost as contract talks stall with PSG

Liverpool have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Kylian Mbappe amid his contract situation at Paris Saint-Germain.

The France international is yet to put pen to paper over a deal at the Parc des Princes.

His current terms expire in June 2022, meaning this will be the last season before he could potentially leave for nothing.

PSG would rather sell him this year than lose him for nothing, meaning a transfer away is very much on the cards.

Real Madrid are at the forefront but the sudden departure of ZInedine Zidane changes the picture.

Mbappe idolises Zidane and without the Frenchman in charge at the Bernabeu, that has had an influence on his decision-making.

It is possible that the World Cup winner signs a new deal at PSG, but that does not necessarily rule out a transfer.

According to Le Parisien, Mbappe has two demands that are yet to be met – though a contract is on the table that would see his stay extended until 2025.

However, the first demand is that the length be shortened to three years instead, thereby giving him more control over his future.

With Real Madrid and Liverpool desperate to land the former Monaco man, Mbappe wants to be able to decide for himself whether or not he wants to leave.

The second demand is linked with PSG's performances on the pitch after a miserable year.

They lost out to Lille on the last day of a frantic Ligue 1 battle in a shoddy start to Mauricio Pochettino's reign while they crashed out of the Champions League in the semi-finals.

As a result, Mbappe wants to see some heavy spending in the transfer window after a couple of uncharacteristically frugal summers.

He wants to see a right-back signed and a central midfielder, with Hector Bellerin and Paul Pogba linked.

With no contract talk expected until after the Euros this summer, there is plenty of time for Liverpool to continue sowing seeds of doubt.

It could see the 22-year-old make the drastic step in his career to move to the Premier League.
