Liverpool on the verge of signing wonderkid Gordon compared to Salah

Liverpool are closing in on signing Derby County wonderkid Kaide Gordon who has been compared to Mohamed Salah and Mason Greenwood.

That is according to the Liverpool Echo, who claim the 16-year-old could arrive for an initial £1million fee rising to £3m.

Tottenham and Manchester United have also been linked with last season's Derby Academy Player of the Year but it seems Liverpool have pulled ahead in the race for his signature.

Liverpool are thought to believe their pitch of a 'clear path to first-team football' is enough to win over Gordon and his family.

The left-footed winger cum striker, who is usually deployed on the right flank, cannot sign a professional contract until he turns 17, in October.

Speaking on the Echo's Blood Red podcast, Jack Hasler, who has covered plenty of Derby youth games over the past couple of seasons, likened Gordon's left foot to that of Salah's.

"His [biggest strength] is his dribbling skills – he is a very agile player and he has a bit of pace about him as well," he said.

"In terms of the skills he has now, and at the age of 16, he is a top-quality player. He has a good eye for goal and he creates goals for his teammates.

"If he was to bulk up a bit, he could, in terms of a Liverpool player, be similar to Mohamed Salah in that he has that left foot that is really special."

Hasler was there when Gordon made his debut against Newcastle at the age of 15 and described him as the best player on the pitch.

"He is always going to score and create, but if you look at someone like [Mason] Greenwood, he is good with both feet now and that is something that Gordon would be looking to do," he added.

The youngster certainly represents a promising signing should Liverpool get a deal done later in the year.
