Liverpool have been rocked by another coronavirus case after Sadio Mane tested positive for COVID-19.

The Kop forward will now miss Sunday's Premier League clash with Aston Villa.

Mane is the second Reds player to test positive after £20m signing Thiago was also revealed to have had the virus earlier this week.

The Senegal ace is now self isolating and will be out of action for at least 10 days.

Mane was self isolating at home after displaying symptoms of the virus and underwent a private test.

Liverpool then followed that up with a test as per Premier League protocols and both were positive.

A Liverpool statement read: “Sadio Mane has tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently self-isolating according to the necessary guidelines.

“The forward, who started and scored in Monday’s 3-1 victory over Arsenal, has displayed minor symptoms of the virus but feels in good health overall.

“However, like with Thiago Alcantara, Liverpool Football Club are – and will continue to – follow all protocols relating to COVID-19 and Mane will self-isolate for the required period of time.”

Mane will also miss his country's clashes with Morocco and Mauritania as he will be unable to travel.

Liverpool will hope he is available for the clash with Everton on October 17.

But his absence will be a big blow against Villa after his flying start to the season.

Mane has scored three goals in his last two games for the Reds to help them overcome Chelsea and Arsenal.

It could mean a first Premier League start for Diogo Jota at Liverpool.

The £41m signing from Wolves has already scored coming off the bench on Monday against Arsenal.

But Jurgen Klopp was keen to bring in attacking reinforcements this summer and now he has Jota at his disposal.

Liverpool’s protocol has been to protect individual medical confidentiality with regard to positive Covid-19 tests unless an individual wanted the diagnosis to be made public.

Both Mane and Thiago waived anonymity.

They do not believe that the virus will spread throughout the squad.

Any player who feels ill is told to stay at home and must be tested twice before they can return to their Melwood training base.
