Liverpool are in contact with Tottenham Hotspur on deadline day over a possible deal for Paulo Gazzaniga as Jurgen Klopp chases an alternative goalkeeper option.
Klopp was unimpressed with Adrian’s woeful display against Aston Villa as they stand-in keeper conceded seven goals in a humiliating mauling, with Adrian clearly at fault for Villa’s opener with a slack pass. Yet there are fears Alisson Becker could be out for more than six weeks after sustaining an injury in a training session in the build-up to the game, and that is a major concern for Liverpool as they try to retain the title.
Elsewhere there remain faint hopes of a loan deal for Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele in order to provide more attacking options. Roberto Firmino is another player who appears to be underperforming and with Sadio Mane self-isolating due to Covid-19 and Diogo Jota still finding his feet at the club, there is the potential for one more attacking arrival. It means Xherdan Shaqiri could leave today, with Sevilla and Lazio both linked to the Swiss winger. Follow all the latest done deals, news and rumours below:
FENERBAHCE JOIN SHAQIRI RACE
Turkish giants have joined the race to sign Liverpool winger Xherdan Shaqiri on deadline day.
Sevilla and Lazio have both been linked with the Switzerland star and now according to Turkish daily Takvim, Fenerbache are keen on signing the 28-year-old as well.
LIVERPOOL TO HIJACK DEMBELE MOVE?
The Mirror are suggesting that Liverpool are planning to hijack Manchester United’s pursuit of Ousmane Dembele.
The Reds have already strengthened this summer with the addition of Diogo Jota from Wolves so this is very much a rumour at this stage.
However, on the back of yesterday’s humiliating 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa, The Mirror suggests that Jurgen Klopp’s side are back in the market for another player.
Dembele is rumoured to be an option, with Barcelona keen to get the France international off their books ahead of Monday evening’s transfer deadline.
Barca paid a club record £131m to sign Dembele three years ago, but they are now willing to offload for less than half that price.
Xherdan Shaqiri is one of the most likely squad members to depart Anfield today, having been pushed to the fringes of the squad even further by the recent signing of Diogo Jota.
Sevilla and Lazio have both been linked with the Swiss winger, but time is running out to complete a deal.
First up is the news that Liverpool are chasing goalkeeper reinforcements today after Alisson Becker’s injury which could see him ruled out for more than six weeks, and The Independent understands that Liverpool have made contact with Tottenham over a possible deal for Paulo Gazzaniga.
Gazzaniga impressed last season in the Spurs goal standing in for injured captain Hugo Lloris, but has found himself on the fringes this season with Lloris’s return and the signing of Joe Hart.
After Adrian’s shocker last night, where he conceded seven goals at Aston Villa, a goalkeeper is thought to be high on Jurgen Klopp’s emergency shopping list today in order to get their title defence back on track.
