Liverpool transfer news: Thiago Alcantara deal ‘close’ as striker set for move

Compared to that of many of their Premier League rivals, this summer has been a relatively quiet one for Liverpool.

The Premier League champions added Greek left-back Kostas Tsimikas in a deal worth £11.75million, while speculation concerning their interest in Thiago Alcantara continues to swirl – but other than that the Reds have laid low.

There’s still plenty time for that to change, though. Here are three of today’s biggest and most intriguing Liverpool transfer stories.

Reds close in on deal for No1 target

Thiago has made the decision to leave Bayern Munich this summer and Liverpool are close to agreeing a fee for the midfielder with the Bundesliga and Champions League winners.

Brazilian outlet UOL reports Bayern and Liverpool are expected to reach an agreement on a transfer fee for the 29-year-old soon, with Thiago having already agreed personal terms with the Premier League champions.

It is claimed Liverpool have offered €27million (£24m) for the Spanish international, but Bayern Munich are looking for closer to €36m (£32m).

A key member of Bayern treble-winning squad last season, Thiago is one of the game's best players in his position and his signing would be a significant coup for Liverpool.

Blades hold talks over loan move for Reds youngster

Sheffield United have had discussions with Liverpool over signing young forward Rhian Brewster for the 2020/21 season amid interest from a number of other Premier League clubs.

90min claims the Blades are now the favourites to sign Brewster on loan following an impressive loan spell at Swansea City in the second half of last season, during which he scored 11 times in 22 Championship appearances.

Crystal Palace, Fulham, Leeds United and Newcastle United have enquired about Brewster, but Chris Wilder is particularly keen to sign the 20-year-old, viewing the forward as perfect for his Sheffield United system.

Brewster is one of Liverpool’s brightest young hopes for the future, but is aware that first team opportunities might be hard to come by at Anfield at the moment.

AC Milan are one of two Serie A clubs interested in signing Marko Grujic this summer, with Liverpool likely to be open to the idea of selling the midfielder.

The 24-year-old spent last season on loan at Hertha Berlin, making 29 Bundesliga appearances, but still doesn’t appear to be a part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans at Liverpool.

Tuttomercatoweb (via Sempre Milan) report AC Milan are looking for midfield depth this summer and that they have identified Grujic as a potential target.

The Rossoneri have already made contact with the Anfield club while fellow Serie A club Benevento have put forward a proposal to Liverpool which would see them pay to loan Grujic whilst having the option to buy.
