While the summer of 2020 was expected to be a quiet one for Liverpool, quiet and silent are not the same thing.
The reigning Premier League champions are preparing for a title defence, as well as chasing a third Champions League final in four years, and we could yet see further ins and outs as Jurgen Klopp’s team prepares to pick up where it left off in July.
We’ve got updates from around the UK and Europe, focusing on one potential big-money arrival at Anfield and two players who could end up leaving the club on loan before the Premier League season gets underway in September.
Six Premier League team expresses interest in taking Reds striker on loan
Rhian Brewster has made it clear he would rather fight for game-time at Anfield than go out on loan, but that hasn’t stopped plenty of Premier League sides making enquiries.
The striker, who ended last season on loan at Swansea City, has spoken to the Beautiful Game podcast about his desire to prove himself at his parent club.
However, according to the Mirror, Brewster is wanted by six top-fight clubs, with Aston Villa joining Brighton & Hove Albion, Crystal Palace, Fulham and Newcastle United in making their intentions known.
Burnley are also interested in a loan move for Brewster, who has also interested a number of Championship sides.
The 20-year-old, who made his senior Liverpool debut last season, scored 11 goals in 22 Swansea appearances to help Steve Cooper’s side reach the Championship play-offs.
He’s yet to open his Reds account in regular play, but did convert his penalty in the shoot-out victory over Arsenal in last season’s EFL Cup.
Sarr gives update on Liverpool links
Ismaila Sarr has been mentioned in connection with Liverpool, with the club’s record of signing newly relegated players coming up in discussion of the Watford man’s future.
The winger impressed in bursts for the Hornets last season, but was unable to keep them in the top flight and has since been linked with a move to Anfield.
While the former Rennes man hasn’t had contact over any potential deal, he has spoken of his admiration for the Premier League champions.
“Every day, like everyone else, I get information like I’m going to play at Liverpool, Manchester United etc… But really, for now, we haven’t spoken about it internally,” Sarr told Les Echos, per Sport Witness.
“Liverpool really are a big team, everyone would like to play there,” he continued. “They won the Premier League this year and the Champions League last season, but there are other big teams in the English league.
“Honestly, I don’t have a choice to make yet. If that were to happen, I only wish for it to be a good team. For now, there are only assumptions.”
Liverpool youngster ‘completes medical’ ahead of loan switch to France
Adam Lewis has been pushed back in the Liverpool pecking order by the arrival of Kostas Tsimikas, and it looks as though the young defender will be allowed to leave on loan as a result.
The 20-year-old made his debut in last season’s FA Cup victory over Shrewsbury Town, but didn’t add to that appearance with Jurgen Klopp preferring to use Neco Williams as cover on both sides of the back four.
According to French outlet Courrier Picard (via HITC), Lewis – who recently signed a new contract at Anfield – has completed a medical with Amiens ahead of a loan switch to the French side.
Amiens finished last season in 19th place in Ligue 1, dropping back down to the second tier as a result.
The club are no strangers to Premier League loans, having taken Leicester City winger Fousseni Diabate to Stade de la Licorne for the 2019/20 season.
