Liverpool’s Thiago ‘transfer offensive’ expected as star will quit Bayern Munich

Sources in Germany expect Liverpool to go on the 'offensive' for Thiago Alcantara in the very near future as the Reds remain strongly linked with the Champions League winner.

Thiago played for 86 minutes of the final of European football's showpiece event on Sunday, where his Bayern Munich side edged out Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 thanks to a second half header from Kingsley Coman.

The days since that victory have been spent celebrating with teammates and family, but any suggestion that the win could prompt a change of heart from the midfielder have been declared as wide of the mark in German media.

The chief reporter of Sport Bild claims that nobody at Bayern, from manager Hansi Flick to the board of directors, have received any indication that Thiago wants stay at the club for the remaining year of his contract.

Having seemingly set his heart on a move to Liverpool some time ago, it is now up to Jurgen Klopp and Reds sporting director Michael Edwards to come forward with a bid.

That is expected in Germany 'in the coming days' with the Reds thought to be asked to pay around £27million for the 29-year-old.

One man who is expecting the move to go through is the former Liverpool and Bayern midfielder Dietmar Hamann, who says Thiago would be a great addition for the Reds.

“I’d be very surprised if he turned down a contract with Bayern Munich if he hasn’t got anything else," the German told talkSPORT.

I’m sure he has got an offer from Liverpool, it’s probably about the transfer fee now.

“I never felt he was a defensive or a holding midfielder, but he has been absolutely magnificent. The way he pulled things together [against PSG], and he’s a brilliant footballer.

“He can give a new and different dimension to Liverpool’s midfield. I’d be surprised if he doesn’t end up at Liverpool.”
