Luke Shaw has delivered the perfect response to a Manchester United fan who suggested he should win the Ballon d’Or this year. The left-back has been revitalised under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this term, enjoying his best season yet at Old Trafford.
The Englishman frequently clashed with Solskjaer’s predecessor Jose Mourinho following a £33million move from Southampton.
But after struggling with injuries and for form under the Portuguese, Shaw has turned his United career around since Mourinho departed.
Shaw has been an ever-present at left-back this season, easily beating out the challenge of Alex Telles for the position in Solskjaer’s side.
He has had several standout defensive displays, most memorably against Mohamed Salah in the goalless draw at Liverpool.

The 25-year-old has also impressed going forward, scoring his first top-flight goal for United and notching six assists in all competitions.
His dominant displays on the left side of defence has brought him back into real contention for a starting spot in England’s team at this summer’s European Championships.
In addition to that recognition, it appears that some United fans also believe that Shaw should be awarded the Ballon d’Or.
One supporter on Twitter mocked up a photo of Shaw ‘receiving’ the Ballon d’Or trophy, tagging the left-back with the comment “thoughts?”.

Fabio Cannavaro was the last defender to win the award, being selected as the best player in the world on the back of Italy’s World Cup win in 2006.
But rather than confirm to United fans that he felt he deserved to break the defensive duck, Shaw instead pointed to one of his team-mates.
“That doesn’t look like Bruno Fernandes,” the left-back tweeted, highlighting the achievements of the midfielder this season.
Fernandes has been arguably United’s most important player this season as they have reached the Europa league final.
The Portuguese has scored 17 goals so far in the Premier League, the highest-scoring midfielder in the top-flight and only four less than current Golden Boot leader Harry Kane.
The 26-year-old has also been ruthless in front of goal in other competitions, with his total goal tally being a remarkable 27.
Fernandes has also helped those around him find the back of the net, chipping in with 17 assists in all competitions for United.
Luka Modric was the last midfielder to be awarded with the Ballon d’Or, picking up the trophy in 2019.
