Manchester United have blocked Jose Mourinho and Roma from signing Alex Telles in a loan deal.
Mourinho has raided his former club in the hope he can make Telles one of his first signings as new Roma boss.
Italy star Leonardo Spinazzola suffered an anterior cruciate ligament to end his thrilling Euro 2020 journey early and Telles has been sought out as a temporary replacement.
Goalkeeper Rui Patricio was confirmed as Roma's first signing of the Mourinho era and Telles is also wanted by the Serie A giants.
Telles joined United just last summer from FC Porto and has deputised for Luke Shaw, who has enjoyed an outstanding resurgence in form.
But he could be set for a switch just one year after arriving in Manchester, after making just nine Premier League appearances last term.
Sky Sports Italia claim United have already turned down Roma's loan bid for Telles, but only because they would prefer to sell the Brazil international permanently.

Telles racked up 23 appearances in total under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last term, and has shown some promising signs in a United shirt.
But he is unlikely to dislodge England Euro 2020 hero Shaw as United's first-choice left-back and a return to Italy could be desirable.
The 28-year-old spent the 2015/16 campaign on loan at Inter Milan so is well-accustomed to the division.
However, any move appears to hinge on whether the two clubs can make a compromise.
Meanwhile, Telles' defensive teammate Brandon Williams is expected to be a loan departure from Old Trafford this summer.
Williams was another player restricted to limited opportunities last summer due to the form of Shaw.
He is expected to spend a season out on loan in order to accelerate his development at the club.
