Man Utd: Greenwood to leave after two parties reach agreement
Manchester United may get the opportunity to repeat Manchester City’s and Liverpool’s respective successful transfers of Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah this summer in a deal that could once again come back to bite Chelsea. The Red Devils have already landed Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund for Erik ten Hag, but more signings are expected – especially to bolster the defence.
United are eyeing up a midfielder to help defensively after the opening two games of the Premier League season saw Ten Hag’s newly-constructed trio of Mount, Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro struggle to contain their opposite numbers – with Ryan Gravenberch and Sofyan Amrabat the current targets.
While Benfica goalkeeper Odisseas Vlachodimos has been earmarked to come in as understudy to Onana, once Dean Henderson secures a move to either Crystal Palace or Nottingham Forest. But another centre-back could well head to Old Trafford, if Harry Maguire does seal a move away after falling down the pecking order.
Fabrizio Romano has insisted that United’s transfer plan for Maguire’s potential exit, despite his West Ham move collapsing, consists of three replacements in Marc Guehi, Edmond Tapsoba and Jean-Clair Todibo – though no signing is close with movements regarding Maguire currently stalled.

Crystal Palace star Guehi has been of interest to several top Premier League clubs, having impressed at Selhurst Park in the two seasons following his £18million move from Chelsea. The England man had been tipped for a big future after a strong loan at Swansea the previous campaign, but the Blues instead preferred to cash in on the young defender as opposed to giving him a chance with the first team.
Chelsea have since spent a fortune on centre-backs as the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly, Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi have all joined, while Guehi is flourishing at Palace and attracting the attention of United.

Should the Red Devils move for Guehi and he becomes a success at Old Trafford, he could be the latest of errors made by Chelsea after failing to notice his talent – in the same way that they were prepared to let De Bruyne and Salah leave before the duo went on to become Premier League icons.
Though there is plenty of work to be done on United’s end in order to sign Guehi, as first Maguire must be convinced to leave and a willing buyer has to be found. The England stalwart is prepared to fight for his place at Old Trafford and has already been accused of sabotaging his move to West Ham.
Palace would need a replacement arranged for Guehi and have been linked with Torino defender Perr Schuurs. If United want to potentially embarrass Chelsea similar to their De Bruyne and Salah failures, then they have to get the ball rolling soon.
