Erling Haaland has sent a four-word message as Manchester United target a new striker in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Red Devils chiefs John Murtough and Darren Fletcher have reportedly identified another area of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s squad that needs improving this summer – and the manager has been warned he faces a new sack threat. Express Sport brings you the latest news from Old Trafford.

Murtough and Fletcher identify new transfer need

It’s been well documented that United are targeting a striker and a central defender in the next window.

But according to Eurosport, football director Murtough and technical director Fletcher have agreed that the midfield, while not a priority, also needs improvement.

The report says only a small part of the budget would be reserved to add to the engine room.

One player the Premier League giants have been linked with in the past is Youri Tielemans – who scored in Leicester’s FA Cup victory over United on Sunday.

And former Red Devils midfielder Luke Chadwick believes the Foxes ace would be a top signing for his old club.

“I think he plays that sort of role where he’s got a bit of everything,” Chadwick told CaughtOffside.

“He’s played a deeper role when James Maddison plays, and it would be great to have someone like him to feed the ball into Bruno Fernandes. But he does the other stuff as well, he puts a shift in.”

Haaland’s four-word message to United

Borussia Dortmund star Haaland gave a simple, concise message to the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea over a summer transfer.

The Norway international is having a jaw-dropping campaign, scoring 33 in 31 appearances.

Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Juventus have all been linked with the 20-year-old, who will have his pick of clubs should he wish to leave this summer.

But he had a simple message for those clubs, telling reporters in Norway: “They must want me.”

In the same breath, he also moved to quell rumours of his future, adding: “I still have a three-year contract, I’m not concerned about that.”

Solskjaer warned he faces fresh sack threat

United could sack Solskjaer if they do not win the Europa League this season.

That is the opinion of Danny Murphy, who believes the Red Devils coach needs to start bringing silverware to the club.

With his contract set to expire at the end of next season, there are plans afoot to extend the deal.

But Murphy believes he will need something to show for his time at the club so far – or the Old Trafford supremos will cut his time short.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the ex-England midfielder said: “They can’t be blaming tiredness for a loss at Leicester in the FA Cup and their squad not being strong enough.

“Not progressing in the Champions League was a massive, massive blow for them. Yes, they’re going to get in the top four… but so they damn should!

“He’s in a position for me where the Europa League, for me, has become monumental for him and the club.

“If they don’t win the Europa League and only finish in the top four then I think they’ll make a change.”
