Manchester United star Paul Pogba raised eyebrows with his latest flirtation with Real Madrid last week.
Pogba has made no secret of his “dream” to play for the LaLiga giants and reiterated that desire as he spoke to the press on international duty with France.
The midfielder, who is out of contract at Old Trafford next summer, cast fresh doubt over his future as he admitted he has not yet held talks with Ed Woodward over triggering his one-year extension.
But Pogba has reportedly retained the support of his team-mates at United after his most recent comments.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Pogba remains a popular figure in the dressing room considered the best player at the club by many.
Before the coronavirus pandemic, some in the squad felt Pogba should be allowed to leave.
There was a suggestion his head was not at Old Trafford but he has had a fresh lease of life since returning from his long-term injury.
Pogba has re-established himself in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side alongside Bruno Fernandes in midfield and players are keen to see him stay put despite his recent comments.
“Today, I am still at Manchester United and I am fighting to try to take the club even higher," Pogba said at a press conference at France's Clairefontaine base.
"We have all heard these things that have been said. What to respond? Yes, all footballers would like to play for Real Madrid. Maybe it is a dream. It is a dream for me. Why not one day?
"As I have said, I am at Manchester United and I like my club. I am performing at Manchester United, I am enjoying myself and I want to do everything I can to get the club back to where it deserves to be.
"I am going to give my maximum, like my teammates. I prefer to concentrate on football and on returning to fitness."
