Manchester United are facing a ‘decisive few days’ when it comes to signing Porto star Alex Telles, reports say. The Brazil international has emerged as an alternative transfer target to Sergio Reguilon, who is poised to join Tottenham. And, should he sign, he’d compete with Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams for a starting berth.
Manchester United have made just one signing so far this summer, with Donny van de Beek arriving from Ajax in a £40million deal.
That’s in stark contrast to their Premier League rivals, who have strengthened all around them.
Chelsea have signed six players so far with Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva, Malang Sarr and Kai Havertz all moving to Stamford Bridge.
Tottenham have recruited well, too, with Gareth Bale and Reguilon now set to join the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Matt Doherty in north London.
And Arsenal have also been active, landing Pablo Mari, Willian and Gabriel Magalhaes.
United know they need reinforcements and had been interested in Reguilon. Now, however, they’re poised to miss out.

And Portuguese newspaper A Bola say United have been offered the chance to sign Telles by super-agent Pini Zahavi, who has sensed a transfer opportunity for his client.
With a move for Reguilon now not happening, the report says the doors are ‘wide open’ for the Porto star to move to Old Trafford instead.
Porto are ready to accept a bid of £18m for the left-back, who has just a year left on his contract.
And it’s claimed the coming days will be ‘decisive’ to see if United are going to make Telles their second signing of the transfer window.
Zahavi, for his part, is said to have communicated to the Portuguese giants that he expects Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to make a formal offer for Telles soon.
And, should that happen, he’d be competing with the likes of Shaw, Williams, Diogo Dalot and Tim Fosu-Mensah for a starting berth at the Theatre of Dreams.

Speaking recently, Solskjaer admitted it had been difficult operating in the transfer market because of circumstances beyond his control.
Asked how many players he would like to add to his squad in total this summer, Solskjaer said: “I never set myself a target, like scoring 20 goals as a player.
“You just have to go day by day, making sure you develop and improve.
“We have a vision of where we want to get to but know so many things can come in the way. I believe in seeing how the team and club develops.
“We are developing team, a year or so into our rebuild. We had to make some decisions last summer and throughout the season we have seen how this team is getting better and getting used to each other.”

He then added: “We are looking forward to it but it has come around so quickly from last season.
“The preparation is very different to what we normally have and we have to take our Europa League games as pre-season.
“I’d rather be an optimist and be wrong than be a pessimist and be right. I did think we would qualify for the Champions League but I was hoping for a trophy along the way as well.
“It is never easy to have too many new players in the team, it takes time for players to gel into a unit.
“We have seen some clubs go for the quick fix and some have trust in the process. We have to improve and get results but adding players with different qualities than we have.”
