A cohort of Manchester United players have reportedly made a combined personal plea to the club's board to splash the cash before the transfer window comes to an end.
Erik ten Hag has had a nightmare start to life in the Premier League after two losses in two – including a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Brentford on Saturday in west London. Thomas Frank's side ruthlessly exposed the glaring holes in United's team – precisely in midfield where the visitors were torn to shreds.
It has been a slow summer at United, who lost several players when their contracts expired including Nemanja Matic, Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba. Reinforcements have been hard to come by, though three have joined.

Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez all have signed for the Red Devils but it is clear to see that more transfers are needed – especially to align with Ten Hag's pressing style. And that feeling is shared among the United squad.
According to the Mirror, a core of senior players, including Cristiano Ronaldo, skipper Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw and Bruno Fernandes, have all made an SOS call to the club's hierarchy to bring in new signings as soon as possible.
Who do United need to sign before the end of the transfer window? Comment below
While the players must shelve some of the responsibility of the humiliation at Brentford, Ten Hag is struggling to stamp his style trying to put square pegs in round holes. Fans have protested over the ownership after a torrid few years where money has been spent but often poorly.
Much might depend on whether Ten Hag can convince Frenkie de Jong to make the move to United from Barcelona – a transfer saga that has stretched on all summer. Whether the Netherlands international signs or not, a move for Adrien Rabiot appears to be moving along.
And a striker is also being eyed amid the speculation that Ronaldo could leave with Bologna star Marko Arnautovic a potential target after a £8million bid was rejected but that deal appears to be dead in the water. PSV star Cody Gakpo and Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalidjzic have also been looked at in recent weeks.
