Man Utd make Timo Werner transfer offer but Liverpool hold key to move

Manchester United have made an offer to RB Leipzig star Timo Werner, it’s claimed. The Germany international has been tipped to head to the Premier League, with Liverpool, United and Chelsea all said to be eyeing the forward. Werner has talked up a move to Liverpool to team up with his countryman Jurgen Klopp.

Speaking after Leipzig’s 5-0 win against Schalke last weekend, the 23-year-old said: “Jurgen Klopp is the best coach in the world.

“There is a lot to suggest that my style of play would suit there (Liverpool).”

Three days previously, Werner branded Liverpool ‘the best team in the world’ are their 1-0 win at Tottenham in the Champions League.

“Liverpool are the best team in the world at the moment,” he said.

“And when you’re linked with that team it makes me very proud.

“It’s a pleasure but I know Liverpool play a lot of good players.

“I have to improve myself and to learn much more things to get on this level to play there.”

And according to The Athletic, United have made a proposal to Werner to beat Liverpool to the striker.

Werner has an offer from United – and Barcelona – however, the German is waiting to see whether Liverpool will make a move.

  • Man Utd star Bruno Fernandes has affected major Ed Woodward decision

The Athletic add that there’s a clause in Werner’s Leipzig contract that allows him to agree a move away for £51m providing talks are wrapped up before an April deadline.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was asked about his opinion on Werner earlier this week, however, the German remained coy on his countryman.

“I can’t say whether we are interested or not,” he said.

“Timo is a very good player. It’s not unusual for him to be linked with us.

“After all, I’m a German coach who works abroad. But it’s not automatically the case that we sign 12 German internationals every year.”

  • Liverpool backed to replace Salah or Mane with Werner this summer

United are expecting a busy summer window, with Ed Woodward willing to splash the cash again.

The Red Devils signed Bruno Fernandes in January, with Odion Ighalo joining on loan.

United are ready to go all out for Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish at the end of the season.

Grealish fits United’s new transfer philosophy of signing young, British talent.

It’s claimed Grealish, 24, is now United’s top target ahead of Leicester playmaker James Maddison.
