Man Utd players can expect Old Trafford walk of shame in match against Brentford

Manchester United's flops will face a walk of shame on Monday following their final home game of a disastrous season.

United will bring the curtain down on their home campaign with the visit of Brentford. And Ralf Rangnick's stars are bracing themselves for an abusive send-off from a packed Old Trafford, in the wake of what has been a desperate 10 months for the stricken giants.

Supporters have been left seething after seeing United limp towards what could be their lowest points total in Premier League history. United were also knocked out of Europe in the last 16 stage, failed to get past the fourth round of both domestic cup competitions and saw a possible title challenge never materialise.

United have failed to secure a Champions League spot for next season and could even miss out on Europe altogether. The tradition is for teams to do a lap of the pitch to thank supporters following the final home game. But Rangnick's men can expect little appreciation from fans who have been made to suffer one of the worst campaigns in recent memory. It promises to be the final humiliation for the likes of captain Harry Maguire, Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford, who have all been singled out for fierce criticism this season.

Supporters have staged two protests in recent weeks against reviled American owners the Glazers. The latest one came ahead of last week's 1-1 draw with Chelsea, when thousands came together outside the stadium to set off flares, hold up anti-Glazer banners and stage a 17th minute boycott of the game to represent the number of years the billionaires have owned the club.

Meanwhile, Rangnick claims admits United will find it hard convincing top players to sign for them in the summer after failing to make the Champions League. Rangnick believes United should be signing the likes of Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, but conceded rivals who participate in European football's premier competition have a huge advantage over the Red Devils.

Who should United sign in the summer? Let us know in the comments section below

He said: “He would be one of those examples who I think the emphasis should be on, to convince players who should be Manchester United players for the next few years. It's obvious the club and team needs new players. Some players have no contracts any more and some are not available, some might want more game time and are on loan already. It's obvious the club needs quite a few new players. You need mentality, quality, physicality, skills – the full package.

“But as soon as other clubs like Chelsea Liverpool and Manchester City are involved, you need some good reasons. Someone needs to explain to the players [why they should join United] and that's why it's important what Erik thinks. I know from Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel, if they want players they talk to them and the same is probably true of Pep Guardiola. They speak to them, find out about their mentality and character and if they are the right fit.”
