Manchester United called off a trial for Bayern Munich wonderkid Alphonso Davies back in 2017. The youngster flourished as the Bundesliga giants beat Chelsea 3-0 in their Champions League clash.
An old article from the Manchester Evening News has started doing the rounds again on social media after Davies’ superb performance for Bayern Munich against Chelsea.
The 19-year-old produced a dazzling display at Stamford Bridge, with a Serge Gnabry brace and Robert Lewandowski strike giving the Bundesliga giants a huge Champions League win.
And he could have been a United player.
Back in 2017, the club were hopeful of having the teenager on a three-week trial, after tracking the defender for a considerable amount of time.
But that didn’t happen, with Davies’ trial instead being called off. And, as the famous saying goes, the rest is history.

Meanwhile, speaking after the match in west London, Bayern hitman Thomas Muller lauded Davies for his superb display.
“The lad is blessed with a rapid sprint, the sort we’ve not had at Bayern for a long time,” the Germany international said.
“The applause from the fans at full time was fully deserved.
“He’s learnt a lot tactically since he’s been here. It was a world-class performance.”
And BT Sport Owen Hargreaves with similarly impressed with Davies.
“What an athlete he is by the way, 19 years old,” said the former United and Manchester City star.
“He’s a winger, he’s played as a full-back this season and he’s been absolutely outrageous.
“The pace of him and Gnabry down that left-hand side, they were scary.
“I think it was just a step too far for Chelsea. This is a very, very good Bayern team.”
