Manchester United’s season started in style but has since dropped off following their exceptional 4-1 win over Newcastle. Some of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have continuously stepped up but some are lagging behind.
Manchester United have slipped up following a strong start to their season, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have only won two out of their last six games in all competitions.
The Red Devils started off the season unbeaten, and the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo looked to enhance things at Old Trafford, after the 36-year-old netted twice during a 4-1 win at home to Newcastle on his second debut.
However, despite Ronaldo’s consistent form, the team dynamic hasn’t been quite right and United are battling a poor run of results, with some players struggling while others can’t stop shining under Solskjaer.
The United boss will be hoping that his side can get back on track, with some fans already starting to lose patience.
JUST IN: Man Utd have ‘three January targets’ after clear scouting instructions
It was so nearly a wonderful season for United last time out as Solskjaer guided his side to a second place finish in the Premier League, and narrowly missed out on Europa League glory via a penalty shootout.
United looked intent on improving their fortunes this time around, as the club signed Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Ronaldo during a very prolific summer in the transfer market.
The international break has come at a great time for Solskjaer, as it gives United a break from domestic form and a chance to reset in the hopes that they can get back on track, with pressure mounting quickly.
Solskjaer will be hoping that some of his stars can step it up upon their return, and gel with those already shining at Old Trafford, and Express Sport has taken a look at which players fall under each category…

Dean Henderson was pushing for the United no.1 last season and was even considered for the England starting role before sustaining an injury, but David De Gea is now well clear of the goalkeeper.
De Gea has re-found his form between the sticks at United, and Henderson has slipped out of contention under Solskjaer, with some suggesting that the Englishman should look to head out on loan just like he did with Sheffield United two seasons ago.
Anthony Martial has been trialled this season on a number of occasions, but despite his opening goal against Everton on Saturday, the Frenchman has failed to make the most of his other opportunities.
His goal was cancelled out by Andros Townsend as United drew the game 1-1, and it looks less likely that the 25-year-old will be able to land a starting role when Solskjaer’s squad gets back to full fitness.
Donny Van de Beek
Donny Van de Beek just can’t catch a break at United, and even when the midfielder did start against Young Boys in the Champions League, he was dragged off due to Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s red card.
The Dutchman’s tantrum on the bench against Villarreal looked to be the final straw for the midfielder, who could seek a January loan move in an attempt to revive his career.
The homecoming of Ronaldo has been an exceptional one, and the Portuguese star has already popped up with some big moments during his second stint at United.
The clinical five-time Ballon D’or winner looks set to continue performing at the highest level, and if Solskjaer can sort things out further behind him, United could be unstoppable.
David De Gea
De Gea has re-established himself as the main man at United after a dip in form over the past few seasons, leading to some critics questioning his ability.
However, the Spaniard looks back to his best and the defence in front of him is certainly helping matters, as United look to solidify things defensively for the near future.
Bruno Fernandes has reminded United fans that there still is another top Portuguese star at Old Trafford this season, although his penalty miss has complicated set pieces moving forward.
The midfielder is still a huge part of everything United do moving forward, and really gels the attack together, with his Portuguese compatriot Ronaldo already being assisted by him this season.
While United were sorting out their centre-forward issues, Mason Greenwood filled in the role and proved valuable for Solskjaer, scoring in his first three Premier League games.
His talents have been highlighted as his place in the team has remained despite Ronaldo joining the side, with Greenwood now occupying a wider role for United.
