After completing the transfer of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and Tom Heaton on a free, Manchester United are looking to finalize deals for two more players as they look to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.
Last season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ’s team finished second in the Premier League behind Manchester City and lost to Villarreal in the Europa League final and the manager is keen to close that gap with their rivals.
United agreed a deal with Dortmund for the transfer of Sancho a few weeks ago and recently completed medicals for the player, with official confirmation expected soon.
Their summer spending doesn’t stop there and they could spend up to £80m more, having already forked out £73m in the deal for Sancho, which is due over five installments.
The other two players the Red Devils have been targeting are Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane and Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.
Varane, 28, a World Cup winner with France, only has a year left on his current deal, but Real Madridare understood to want £60m for him, with United only willing to pay £40m.
According to The Athletic, Varane's agents have informed President Florentino Perez of his desire for a fresh challenge, rather than sign an extension, and new manager Carlo Ancelotti is fully abreast of the situation.
Sources close to the situation feel Varane will ultimately end up at Old Trafford this summer, and new reports have suggested that the player’s family have already started looking for a house in Manchester.
If a deal was to take place, it would still be a few weeks away as the Frenchman has only recently started his holiday, having been a part of France’s squad at Euro 2020.
Would Raphael Varane and Eduardo Camavinga be good signings for Manchester United? Let us know in the comments below.
Camavinga, 18, is in a similar situation regarding his contract, and Rennes may be open to losing him this year for a fee rather than nothing next year.
For Camavinga, a fee of around £30m has been quoted, but Rennes may be looking for higher, and there is also interest in the player from Paris Saint-Germain and more recently, Chelsea, with Petr Cech pushing for a move.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, it’s certain that Camavinga will not sign a new contract this summer with Rennes, so a move away seems likely.
