Manchester United’s failure to sign Ousmane Dembele on transfer day caused Barcelona to pull the plug on two deals Ronald Koeman was desperate to complete. According to the Evening Standard, Barca had to pull out of deals to sign Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia.
Barca boss Koeman was determined to complete two transfers on deadline day.
The club had agreed terms to buy Lyon forward Depay, who Koeman had as one of his top targets after selling Luis Suarez.
The striker was ready to fly to Barcelona to sign for the La Liga side, but the deal was pulled at the last minute.
Barca were ready to pay £25million for Depay, and had inserted a series of add-ons in the deal.

They were also forced to pull the plug on a move to sign Manchester City defender Garcia.
Barcelona’s 8-2 loss against Bayern Munich in the Champions League in August highlighted their need to improve at the back, and had been in talks with City over the La Masia academy graduate.
Barca had made a bid of £15m rejected by City, with the Premier League side holding out for closer to £20m.
However, they had to pull out of that deal as well after failing to offload Dembele.

The French winger was deemed surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp, and was in talks with United.
The Red Devils viewed him as a cheaper alternative to Jadon Sancho, having failed to meet Borussia Dortmund’s £108m asking price.
Dembele was made available for around £50m, representing a significantly cheaper option than Sancho.
However, United only wanted to loan the winger for the year, due to their desire to sign Sancho further down the line.

And after they opted against signing Dembele, there were no other takers, meaning Barca had to put an end to all their transfer plans.
They are still set to land Garcia before too long, however.
The defender is out of contract next summer, and can discuss terms over a pre-contract agreement in January.
Garcia, 19, has apparently told Etihad officials that he is going to sign for Barca for free in January, and won’t consider signing a new contract.
