Manchester United look set to be without midfielder Fred for tonight’s Europa League clash against Club Brugge after the Brazilian failed to link up with the squad at the team hotel this afternoon.
The last-32 tie is delicately poised following last week’s 1-1 draw in Belgium and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been expected to name his strongest side as the Red Devils look to book their passage into the next round.
Fred started on the bench last Thursday as Solskjaer made six changes but the Brazilian’s been in excellent form and has been one of the first names on the teamsheet in recent months.
However, Fred was not spotted arriving amongst the 22-man squad that arrived at the Lowry Hotel and looks set to miss out tonight.
Scott McTominay was seen arriving with the squad and he could make his first start of 2020 in Fred’s absence.
The Scottish international has missed the last two months of the season with an ankle injury but he made his return in Sunday’s 3-0 win against Watford at Old Trafford.
Bruno Fernandes will be looking to continue his bright start to life at United by starting against Brugge and he’s expected to replace Juan Mata in the starting XI after the Spaniard was given the nod last Thursday.
Anthony Martial was not photographed at the team hotel but he was spotted by photographers and he’ll be bidding to score in a fourth consecutive match to continue his bright recent form.
Manchester United’s squad to face Club Brugge: De Gea, Romero, Bishop, Dalot, Bailly, Lindelof Williams, Shaw, Maguire, Wan-Bissaka, Pereira, Fernandes, Matic, Mata, McTominay, Gomes, James, Lingard, Ighalo, Chong, Martial, Greenwood
