It is believed that Manchester City have taken a significant step forward in their pursuit to sign Haaland this summer.

Sportsmail recently revealed that Haaland had agreed to a deal that would see him earn more than £500,000 a week with the Premier League giants.

However, that did not stop Odegaard from joking that his international team-mate would have to join Arsenal if he chose to swap the Bundesliga for the Premier League this summer.

When asked about Haaland’s future by StadiumAstro, the Arsenal star said: ‘He [Haaland] is a funny guy. A good friend of mine and a great player.

‘We will see what he will do. I don’t know. But, if he is coming to England, he needs to come to us of course. No, I don’t know what he will do but he is a great guy.

Haaland, 21, has become one of the most highly sought after strikers in world football

‘To be honest we haven’t talked too much about it. I know he has so many people trying to ask him and to tell him what to do and I don’t want to do that. So, we will have to wait and see.’

When asked whether Haaland would suit the physicality of the Premier League, Odegaard said: ‘He’s a beast.

‘He is strong, he is fast, and I think he has everything. So, I think he can play in every league, in every country to be honest.’

Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester City have registered an interest in signing Haaland this summer. However, it is Pep Guardiola’s side that are said to be leading the transfer race.

Manchester City’s pursuit of Haaland is said to have taken a significant step forward

Haaland could surpass Kevin De Bruyne as the highest-paid player in the Man City squad

Having recently agreed terms with Haaland’s representatives, City are expected to trigger the 21-year-old striker’s £63m release clause at Dortmund.

Should a deal go through, Haaland will become the highest-paid player in the Manchester City side.

A salary in excess of £500,000-a-week would propel him beyond the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, who pockets around £385,000.

Additionally, Guardiola is keen to push a deal over the line before Manchester City’s trip to the United States in July.
