A number of Paris Saint-Germain players believe that Mauricio Pochettino could leave the club and take charge of Manchester United over the coming weeks, according to reports. The Red Devils are said to be keen on appointing the former Tottenham boss to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was relieved of his duties on Sunday morning.
The Norwegian was given his marching orders in the wake of United’s embarrassing 4-1 defeat at the hands of Watford on Saturday.
He was under significant pressure for the last few months of his spell in charge of the club and left them occupying eighth place in the Premier League table.
United chiefs made the decision to sack Solskjaer just hours after the final whistle at Vicarage Road but did not have a comprehensive plan drawn up to replace the 48-year-old.
A number of high-profile names have been linked with the vacancy over the last few weeks, including the likes of Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag and Real Madrid icon Zinedine Zidane.
Pochettino is also understood to be in the frame for the United job and looks to have emerged as the favourite for the role over the last 24 hours.

He is said to be at the top of Joel Glazer’s list of managerial targets, but remains under contract at PSG until the summer of 2023.
However, it seems as though United may be prepared to chase Pochettino immediately despite previously claiming that an interim boss would be appointed until the end of the season.
He is believed to be keen on taking charge at Old Trafford and a handful of PSG stars are expecting the move to be confirmed imminently, according to Marca.
The report claims that Pochettino’s situation has been discussed in private by his current squad, who are hoping that Zidane is appointed to replace the 49-year-old in due course.
The latter is thought to have already informed United that he is not interested in managing the club as he would only take a job with the French national team or PSG.
Meanwhile, Pochettino is said to be open to a Premier League return with the Red Devils after growing unsatisfied with his current role in Paris.
He is strictly employed as a first-team coach by PSG, with sporting director Leonardo taking care of recruitment and other footballing duties.
Pochettino’s family have also remained in London during his time at the Parc des Princes, suggesting that a mid-season move could soon arise as a genuine possibility over the coming days.

United icon Gary Neville recently insisted that Pochettino would jump at the chance to manage the club in spite of the ongoing turmoil at Old Trafford.
“I think Mauricio Pochettino – although he’d never say it – he’d leave to come to Man United on a five-year deal tomorrow,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“He’d look at that group of players, he’d look at the club and he’d realise he’d probably be able to achieve more than he wants at Man United in terms of a project.
“At PSG you are on a season-by-season ‘you’ve got to win the Champions League or you’re out’ type of model. I don’t think that suits Pochettino.
“I think he would absolutely come to Man United on a five-year deal, with backing behind him. How he’d fit in with the current coaches who are still there and left, I’m not sure.”
