Memphis Depay shows off silky skills vs locals in Ghana on mud-covered pitch

Memphis Depay has been caught on camera showing off his silky skills on a mud football community pitch in Ghana.

The Barcelona and Netherlands forward, who was eligible to play for Ghana through his father, is currently on holiday in the African nation ahead of his return to Spain for pre-season. Depay regularly visits the country during his time off and leads a number of community projects in Ghana.

During his current trip, he has been filmed playing against a group of local youngsters on a grassless pitch at the Madina Astroturf park alongside fellow Dutch international footballer Quincy Promes.

In a video uploaded to Twitter by Ghanaian journalist Owuraku Ampofo, Depay and Promes can be seen showing off their skills in front of a pitchside crowd.

The pair, who have played together for the Netherlands at youth and senior level, both exhibit classy stepovers, flicks and turns as they keep the ball away from their opponents.

Depay headed to Ghana after scoring three goals in three appearances for the Netherlands in the Nations League earlier this month.

The 28-year-old also provided an assist in his three appearances for Louis van Gaal's side, as well as wearing the captain's armband in the draw with Poland.

Before his appearance at the Madina Astroturf park in Accra, Depay unveiled a newly-built bathroom and toilet for the Cape Coast school for the Deaf and Blind after arriving in Ghana. He has also donated sports equipment and other items to local children.

The former Lyon man is unwinding in the west African country following his first season with Spanish giants Barcelona, which ended with the club finishing second in La Liga.

Having arrived on a free transfer from Lyon last summer, Depay scored 13 goals and laid on two assists for his team-mates in his 38 appearances for Barca across all competitions.

Depay previously had an underwhelming 18-month spell in England with Manchester United after joining the club from PSV Eindhoven for £30million aged 21 in 2015. He managed just two Premier League goals before leaving for Lyon in January 2017.
