Mikel Arteta’s position on Aubameyang’s Arsenal contract situation

Mikel Arteta insists he has complete trust in the Arsenal board over the contract situation of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gunners captain scored his 16th and 17th Premier League goals of the season in the 3-2 win over Everton at the weekend.

Once more, operating from the left side with Eddie Nketiah in the central striking role, the 30-year-old showed his importance to the club.

Additionally, he also made clear how much he is embracing the new direction in which the club is heading under Arteta, working relentlessly both in attack and defence and leading by example.

Arsenal are keen to keep Aubameyang, but his contract situation – it expires in 2021 – leaves the club in a difficult predicament heading into the summer.

Contract negotiations were put on hold last Autumn when Unai Emery was in charge, but club chiefs are now increasing their push to tie the ex-Borussia Dortmund hitman down to a new deal.

And speaking on Wednesday, Arteta stated: “The club has a very idea of how he wants to develop things.

"They are in constant communication with players’ agents and they know the plan better than I do.

"I completely trust them on that.”
