Ndombele torn into by Mourinho in scathing rant after Spurs draw at Burnley

Tanguy Ndombele was singled out by Jose Mourinho in a scathing rant following Tottenham's 1-1 draw with Burnley.

The midfielder was named in the starting XI against the Clarets but was hooked at half-time for Giovani Lo Celso.

It followed a disastrous first half from Spurs that saw Chris Wood net the opener in the 13th minute at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors were lucky not to go in at the break further behind and Mourinho was less than pleased.

Along with Oliver Skipp, Ndombele was taken off and Dele Alli managed to equalise from the penalty spot shortly after the whistle blew.

And the Frenchman was hammered by Mourinho in his press conference.

"My thinking was that in the first half we didn't have a midfield. Simple as that," he said.

"I think more important than the tactics is to have midfield players that want the ball, to have midfield players that connect the game, to have midfield players that press, to have midfield players that recover ball, to have midfield players that win duels and we didn't have it.

"I have to say that Tanguy had enough time to come to a different level.

"I know that the Premier League is very difficult and some players it takes time.

"Some players it takes a long time to adapt to a different league, but a player with this potential and responsibility has to give us more than he is giving us.

"When you see the way Lo Celso, Lucas and players are playing every minute I was expecting more in the first half but second half was really good."

Ndombele is Tottenham's most expensive player after moving from Lyon in the summer for £55m but his season has been ravaged by injuries.

However, it was another alarming performance for Tottenham, who are in danger of throwing away any chance of reaching the top four this season.

The north London outfit sit eighth in the table and are now without a win in five attempts.

They face RB Leipzig next in the Champions League and must mount a comeback in Germany after losing the first leg at home 1-0.
