Neville on Rooney nightclub brawl despite being ‘man marked’ by security guard

Gary Neville has lifted the lid Wayne Rooney's "unpredictable" behaviour on nights out – nd revealed how the striker once had a nightclub brawl despite being man-marked by security.

Former England star Neville captained Rooney during their Manchester United heyday, the pair both becoming integral members of Sir Alex Ferguson's Premier League champions.

In his role as Red Devils skipper, Neville was tasked with overseeing team-bonding sessions which, on occasion, included nights out.

And, when asked which player he had the most difficulty looking after as skipper, the ex-defender mentioned Rooney as someone who caused the most problems.

Speaking on The Football Show on Sky Sports News, Neville said: "Rooney. You used to have to man mark him with a security guard on the night out!"

"I used to take responsibility for it to be fair.

"I remember once – and this is a true story, I used to love Wazza, he was a brilliant lad – but when he was younger he was a bit… what’s the word… when we were out he was a little bit unpredictable.

"I remember once that a security guard was looking after him and I literally put a guard on him.

"I always thought he was a target from people who we saw in the street, I always thought he was someone that other fans would try and wind up."
