Newcastle is 'ideal' for Eden Hazard, claims former Belgium star

Newcastle would be an ‘ideal’ destination for Eden Hazard in January, claims former Belgium star Marc Degryse and insists ‘all the balls will go to him’ at St James’ Park if he ends nightmare spell at Real Madrid

  • Marc Degryse believes Newcastle would be an ‘ideal’ fit for Eden Hazard
  • Hazard is strongly linked with a move away from Real Madrid in January
  • Former Belgium star Degryse said Hazard would be ‘important’ at Newcastle

Eden Hazard would be perfectly suited to a move to Newcastle in the January transfer window and should make the switch, according to former Belgium forward Marc Degryse.

Hazard has been heavily linked with a move away from Real Madrid in the new year following his disastrous spell in LaLiga, but it is thought he is not keen on swapping the Spanish capital for Tyneside.

Degryse, who made 63 appearances for Belgium through the 80s and 90s, said Newcastle would be a good fit for Hazard.

Eden Hazard has been told Newcastle would be an ideal January destination for him

Hazard should make the Tyneside move, according to former Belgium forward Marc Degryse

‘Hazard has to go to a team in January where they count on him, where they make him important,’ said Degryse told Het Laatste Nieuws via Sport Witness.

‘Newcastle is ideal. All the balls will go to him. If he can keep Newcastle in the Premier League, it could give a new boost to his career.’

The 30-year-old was one of the Premier League’s biggest stars during his time at Chelsea, winning two league titles and an FA Cup. His status prompted Real to sign him for a massive £89million in 2019.

Hazard has had a torrid time at Real Madrid, scoring just five goals in 54 appearances

However, Hazard’s time at Real has been an unmitigated disaster, with injuries curtailing the playmaker’s career in Spain. In his 54 appearances he has managed just five goals and nine assists.

He is one of Real’s top earners and with manager Carlo Ancelotti admitting that Hazard has fallen even further down the pecking order at the Bernabeu, the club is very willing to listen to potential offers.

Newcastle have recently hired Eddie Howe as their new manager and he will reportedly be backed in the transfer market by the club’s new Saudi-led owners.

Degryse is not the only one saying Hazard should move to Newcastle. Ex-Arsenal and Bournemouth midfielder Jack Wilshere also said the Belgian could shine at the Magpies under new boss Howe.

Jack Wilshere said Hazard could reignite his career at Newcastle under new boss Eddie Howe

Wilshere played under Howe while on loan at Bournemouth in 2016-17.

‘Eden Hazard is another level, but I think Eden would love playing for a manager like Eddie Howe (at Newcastle), he told talkSPORT.  ‘He’s the type of manager you want to play for.

‘Newcastle have got a few ex-Bournemouth players and that is what Eddie does, he gets the best out of those types of players, gets them going and he gets the fans on side. He’s a great manager.’
