Newcastle are looking to pile on the pressure when they welcome Manchester United to St James’ Park tonight, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men look to bounce back from their humiliating 6-1 defeat by Tottenham before the international break.

Should United go on to lose tonight, Solskjaer’s men could find themselves in the relegation zone by Monday evening if other results go against them over the weekend.

A win for Newcastle would see them go level on points with second-place Liverpool, with Steve Bruce’s men enjoying a quick start to the campaign.

Sportsmail’s SAM BLITZ will provide all the live coverage plus any build-up to the game in the north east.

Both managers are out on the pitch as they prepare to deliver their team-match team talks.

Steve Bruce (right) of course captained Manchester United to their first Premier League title in 1993. He left the club just as Ole Gunnar Solksjaer (left) arrived at Old Trafford as a promising striker.

I wonder what they’re talking about…

Paul Pogba misses out for Manchester United but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keeps his faith in Harry Maguire despite poor form for club and country.

The United captain’s last match saw him sent off for two first-half yellow cards against Denmark on Wednesday which has capped off a difficult few months for the centre-back both on and off the pitch.

The 27-year-old will be looking to put his recent dark days behind him.

So Paul Pogba has been benched by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as he rings the changes after the 6-1 defeat to Tottenham last week.

The French midfielder’s contract runs out at the end of the season which could bring his time at the club to an end after five seasons.

Has Pogba run out of chances at Old Trafford?

There’s no starting spot for Paul Pogba or Nemanja Matic for Manchester United this afternoon… but Donny van de Beek still doesn’t get a place in the line-up.

Scott McTominay and Fred start in place of the midfield duo behind Bruno Fernandes, while there are changes on the wings as Juan Mata gets a rare start and Daniel James gets the nod over Mason Greenwood.

United resort with the same back five that conceded six against Spurs last time out, while new left-back Alex Telles starts on the bench. Edinson Cavani is still isolating after arriving on deadline day while Anthony Martial is serving a suspension.

It’s just the one change for the home side as captain Jamal Lascelles comes in for Fabian Schar, who drops to the bench.

It means Joelinton partners Callum Wilson up front, with the Newcastle new boy scoring twice in the 3-1 victory over Burnley last time time.

Allan Saint-Maximin, who put in a man-of-the-match display in the Burnley win, also starts from the off on the left-hand side.

Good evening everyone and welcome to this live blog for Manchester United’s trip to Newcastle.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will be looking to respond to their embarrassing 6-1 loss at home to Tottenham Hotspur last time out with three points at St James’ Park.

They will come up against a bullish Newcastle side who won their last match at home against Burnley. Can Steve Bruce side’s cause a shock?

Kick-off is at 8pm so team news is coming in now…
