Newcastle are reportedly looking to sign prolific Brazilian striker Gabriel Barbosa in the January transfer window.
Barbosa, known as Gabigol, is the boyfriend of Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar’s sister and features for the Brazil national team alongside the skilful winger.
The 25-year old currently plays for Flamengo in the top division of Brazilian football, having previously failed to make an impression at Inter Milan and Benfica.
And The Mirror now reports Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is interested in signing Gabigol in the hope of adding a much-needed goal threat as his side looks to avoid relegation despite a huge Saudi-backed takeover just months ago.
The Magpies are struggling down in 19th in the Premier League and are keen to secure a top forward in the upcoming transfer window who can help them in the relegation dogfight.
They recently attempted to land Benfica striker Darwin Nunez but the Portuguese side were unwilling to sell the star.
Gabigol now replaces Nunez as Howe’s primary target, boasting huge talent and several titles to his name.
He has won the Brazilian Serie A on two occasions along with winning the Copa Libertadores in 2019 and an Olympic Gold medal with Brazil in 2016.

Gabigol scored a sensational 33 goals during the 2021 season in Brazil across all competitions and his fine form would be a welcome addition Tyneside.
It is understood that the striker will cost mega-rich Newcastle in the region of £17million.
It will then be a matter of whether the player can agree personal terms with the Magpies as they look to add to their total of just one win all season.
