Oxlade-Chamberlain recalls point he realised the power of Liverpool’s support

It took a bad night for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to understand just how special Liverpool fans really are.

Liverpool blew a 3-0 lead at Sevilla in the Champions League in November 2017 and still the travelling supporters gave the players an incredible reception.

Oxlade-Chamberlain recalls: “They travel everywhere to see us. They support us through thick and thin.

“I remember one game, Sevilla away, we’re 3-0 up in the Champions League , we throw it away and we end up drawing 3-3 and they’ve somehow got to get home, they’ve got to get a flight home and get into work the next day.

“I remember us going over, us clapping them and I couldn’t believe it. It was almost like we’d won the game and we hadn’t done anything wrong. That was probably one of the first moments I realised how special they are as a group of fans.

“They appreciated us, we blew it, we’re sorry about that but we really appreciate you coming and they give you that love back. I understood that and I understood what the club was about from early on.

“The beauty of these fans is that, as long as they can see you’re giving your absolute all, then they’re happy with that. Of course you’ve got to provide quality and do what you have to do, appreciate them like they appreciate you.
