Pep Guardiola denies reports Man City were offered to sign Neymar

‘Incredible player, incredibly nice guy… but it’s not right’: Pep Guardiola denies Manchester City were offered the chance to sign Neymar after reports in France said PSG ‘wanted swap deal with Bernardo Silva’

  • Reports claimed Man City ‘turned down the chance to sign PSG star Neymar’
  • It was claimed the French champions wanted Bernardo Silva included in the deal
  • City manager Pep Guardiola has publicly dismissed the speculation

Pep Guardiola has dismissed reports that Manchester City turned down the chance to sign Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar because the French champions wanted any deal to include Bernardo Silva.

City have already made a number of big signings this summer but that hasn’t stopped them from continuing to be linked with another huge one over the past couple of weeks.

Neymar has had an up and down five years with PSG since his world record transfer and was even booed by his own fans following another disastrous Champions League exit last season.

Speculation over his future has been rife this summer after club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi refused to rule out offloading the 30-year-old.

And Le Parisien claim the Brazilian was offered to City as part of a swap deal with Silva, the English champions being one of a few clubs that could afford his £600,000-a-week wages.

However, Guardiola has put the talk to bed, describing it as false information.

‘I’m sorry but it’s not true,’ he said. ‘That information is not right. Neymar is an incredible player and the info I have he’s an incredibly nice guy. But it’s not right.

PSG reportedly offered Neymar (R) to Man City but wanted Bernardo Silva (L) in return

‘Every summer (they say that) Manchester City are going to buy 150 players.’

Portuguese international Silva has become one of the world’s most highly rated players over the past few seasons and it is no surprise that his manager has no plans to let him leave.

Neymar, meanwhile, contributed 13 goals and eight assists last season in another campaign that was hampered by injury.

He has already outlined his determination to have a big season in Paris.
