Phil Jones snubbed in brutal Ralf Rangnick assessment of Wolves performances

Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick has brutally snubbed Phil Jones for his performance against Wolves on Monday evening.

United put in a dismal team performance in the 1-0 loss to Bruno Lage's side in their first clash of 2022.

Despite the poor team performance, Jones was widely praised by the Red Devils faithful for his assured showing at the back.

And Jones' performance was made all the more impressive, with it being his first United cap in almost two years – his last being January 2020.

However, when speaking about individual performance in United's loss, Rangnick failed to mention the returning Englishman.

The German said: "I mean yes we have made some progress but obviously versus Wolves was a step back, a relapse to habits we have shown in the past.

"We need to insist we that we need to work together.

"We can only get better in possession of the ball, together. We have to do things together. With passion, emotion and intensity. This was the problem against Wolves. We were only escorting them.

"It was only David de Gea who did. He kept us in the game. Second-half was better with a back-three."

Jones left the field in tears on Monday evening as the emotion of the situation overwhelmed him.

"One thing I will say is Phil Jones should be proud of himself," Shaw told Sky Sports.

"He has been criticised for years and has gone through a lot, but he is so professional and he has trained hard and he was phenomenal.

"He was exceptional, I am very happy for him and he deserves it."
