Former Rangers chief Charles Green has revealed he tried to bring Steven Gerrard to Ibrox as a player during a chance meeting with the Liverpool legend's wife.
Green became chief executive at administration-hit Rangers back in 2012, jumping on board with the club languishing down in League Two.
He eventually departed in 2013 amid controversy surrounding his consortium's ownership of Gers' assets, and seven years after his exit they managed to reclaim the Scottish Premiership title under Gerrard's management.
Yet, Green claims he first wanted to bring the ex-England midfielder to Ibrox as a player back in 2013; having bumped into his wife, Alex Curran, at the Mayfair Hotel in London.
"I will say something to you now which will have everybody going mad in Scotland. But when I was at Rangers, one day I had a meeting in the Mayfair hotel in London," the British businessman said during an appearance on talkSPORT.
"It was full. The Mayfair hotel prior to Covid is always packed.

"Now, it never went anywhere. But I got a plan, and that plan was instead of Gerrard going to America, his agent pushing him that way, was for him to come to Rangers as a player, 'cos he could still play at that point and he could probably still play now to be fair.
