Real Madrid are eyeing a move for Liverpool star Fabinho as a potential replacement for Raphael Varane.
That is according to reports from Spanish outlet Fichajes, who claim that Fabinho could be set for a return to the Santiago Berbabeu.
With French defender Varane set to enter the final year of his contract, Real are unsure of his future.
The 27-year-old has been linked with a move to Manchester United and Chelsea in the past, and speculation is growing that he could be set to leave the club.
If Varane does opt to seek pastures anew, Fichajes claim that Fabinho is the man Real Madrid want to replace him with.
The Brazilian international, who can play in defensive-midfield or centre-back, spent a short amount of time on loan in the Spanish capital during his time at Rio Ave, before he moved to Monaco.
It’s thought that Fabinho is a huge fan of Los Blancos, and Zinedine Zidane is a big believer in his ability, meaning a move could well be on the cards.
Fabinho also spoke with Bernabeu president Florentino Perez after the recent Champions League quarter-final clash.
It was reported last week that Real had agreed a deal to sign David Alaba from Bayern Munich when his contract expires at the end of the season.
But it seems that with Sergio Ramos’ long-term future also up in the air, Real are looking to cover all bases.
Leeds striker Patrick Bamford revealed recently how Fabinho, who was playing as a centre-half, kept yelling at his team-mates to push up during their 1-1 draw last week.

“And when a team starts dropping off, you know it's because they're too tired to keep getting up and dropping and getting up.
“He was saying it all the time, but it wasn't changing anything, they were just getting deeper and deeper.”
