Reason for Coutinho’s private jet visit to Liverpool to speak to ex-teammates

Philippe Coutinho returned to Liverpool shortly after securing a £142million transfer to Barcelona in 2018.

The Catalan club in fact gave the Brazilian just over three weeks off so that he could make the visit, as Coutinho left Liverpool in something of a hurry in January.

Jurgen Klopp's Reds refused to let their prized asset leave in the summer transfer window.

But Barcelona wouldn't take no for an answer, and when Coutinho made it clear it was his dream to play for the Camp Nou club, Liverpool eventually conceded defeat.

Coutinho didn't really get the chance to say goodbye to the Liverpool squad and coaching staff following his big-money swtich.

And so according to Spanish publication Sport, the Brazilian briefly returned to Merseyside to ensure he left behind nothing but "good feelings".

Coutinho's Barcelona career got off to a rocky start with the Brazilian quickly falling down the pecking order at the Camp Nou.

This culminated in the Brazilian being sent out on loan to Bayern Munich, where he spent the season plying his trade in the Bundesliga.

The loan deal, although at the time shed serious doubt on Coutinho ever making it at Barcelona, proved to be a blessing in disguise.

Coutinho performed well in Germany and won the Champions League – knocking Barcelona out en route to the final.

He returned in the summer and has made 14 appearances in all competitions under Ronald Koeman at Barcelona this season.
