Rio Ferdinand has said that Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets made him "feel like a Conference player" when they faced each other in the Champions League final.

The Catalan giants defeated Manchester United 3-1 at Wembley with Barca's front three of Lionel Messi, Perdo and David Villa running riot.

The 2011 final is regarded as one of Barcelona's greatest ever performances with manager Pep Guardiola's tiki-taka philosophy displayed to perfection.

Despite a fantastic performance of footballing ability, that night is not fondly remembered by Ferdinand who was ran ragged by Barca's fearless forward line.

But it wasn't Villa, Pedro or even Messi that made the England centre-back question his ability, but defensive midfielder Busquets:

"We were here at Wembley in the final and we actually got abused that game by Barcelona, they were brilliant," said Ferdinand speaking about Spain at half-time of their Euro 2020 semi-final against Italy.

"Your confidence is low anyway, you are trying to get the ball back off him.

"He turned and said to me “Ferdinand, Vidic, boom boom boom” (referring to long balls all the time) honestly I felt like a Conference player."

An ever present for the England national team, Ferdinand was known for his strength and quick feet often stepping out of defence to find a forward pass.

It tells you how great a side Barcelona were if the 42-year-old says he felt sub-par when competing against them.

It's not an opinion that Ferdinand stands alone with either; Sir Alex Ferguson also believes the 2011 team Pep Guardiola drilled were one of the greatest to ever play the game.

“The one that made the biggest impression on me is the Barcelona we met at Wembley, with Manchester United, in the 2011 Champions League final. They were unplayable,” said the Scotsman when speaking to France Football.

"Barca was the best team ever to line up against my Manchester United sides," he also wrote in his autobiography.
