Ronaldo delivered rousing speech to Man Utd players night before Newcastle match

Cristiano Ronaldo gave a rousing speech to his Manchester United team mates the night before their 4-1 victory over Newcastle.

The Portugal international scored twice on his second debut for the Red Devils, as he inspired them to three points.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer states the 36-year-old’s presence off the pitch has been as equally important.

He told MUTV: “Ronaldo did a speech to the boys last night. It’s just perfect for him, you see what he’s about, sensing the movement, smelling the danger. But he’s also evolved into a proper team player.”

Ronaldo’s first goal was a simple tap in, after Freddie Woodman spilled a shot by Mason Greenwood into his path.

He slotted his second straight through the keeper’s legs, after Luke Shaw played a great ball through.

Bruno Fernandes and Jesse Lingard added their names onto the scoresheet in the latter stages of the game, with Paul Pogba assisting both, to take his tally up to seven for the season.

Lingard took to Twitter after the match to share his delight of playing with Ronaldo.

He wrote: “Dream big kids.”

The post also included a photo of him at ten-years-old meeting Ronaldo in 2003, alongside one of them celebrating together on Saturday.

David De Gea was also amongst the United players who paid tribute to the returning hero, simply Tweeting: “Siiiiiuuuuuu.”

Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford was one of the biggest moves of the transfer window, which also included Lionel Messi’s Barcelona departure.

The move came out of nowhere, after he had looked set to sign for Manchester City.

He first joined Manchester United for £12million, as an 18-year-old from Sporting Lisbon.

During his six seasons at Old Trafford, his honours included three Premier Leagues, the Champions League and an FA Cup.

He then continued his success with Real Madrid and Juventus, become one of the greatest players ever in world football.
