TalkSPORT’s Trevor Sinclair has told Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo to “know your role and keep your mouth shut."

Ronaldo, 36, completed his sensational return to Old Trafford on deadline day from Juventus, but things haven’t entirely gone according to plan so far.

The Portuguese superstar has himself scored 14 goals in just 21 appearances, but The Red Devils have struggled for form and now have Ralf Rangnick in charge following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer earlier this season.

A recent report has claimed Ronaldo is not in favour of Rangnick and is ‘ready to quit’ the club, depending on who is chosen as the new boss at Old Trafford.

But Sinclair thinks that Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford is now leading to problems at the football club.

“I’m starting to think that Manchester City dodged a bullet by not signing Cristiano Ronaldo, I really think that,” Sinclair told talkSPORT breakfast.

“I think you look at some of the players that are really struggling for form at Manchester United, young players, [Jadon] Sancho, [Marcus] Rashford. I know Rashford has got a lot of experience but they’re really struggling for good performances.

Sinclair was then interrupted and asked: “But can you blame Ronaldo for that? You put Ronaldo in that City side and he’d score a bundle of goals.

To which Sinclair replied: “Course you can. Know your role, you’re a footballer. Your hired by the football club. Keep your mouth shut, at times. That’s the best thing to do. I think he’s causing a lot of problems at the football club.

“Not just his lack of goals of recent times, but the fact that Ole’s [Gunnar Solskjaer] gone, and then Michael [Carrick] went in and dropped in for a game.

“I just feel it’s been one of them signings where it looked good, but it’s far from good. And for me, one of the reasons I think he may not have considered Man City, and it’s certainly not for winning trophies because he would have won silverware there, I think it’s because he didn’t want to be second fiddle to Pep [Guardiola].

“Whereas he can go to Man Utd, he could almost feel like he could bully Ole a little bit, obviously Michael was a stand in manager and then Ralf’s [Rangnick] gone in there and I think he just wants to do what he wants for him, and it’s not the best for the club."
