Manchester United legend Roy Keane has heaped praise on ‘absolutely amazing’ midfielder Jude Bellingham after his display in England’s 6-2 victory over Iran.

The 19-year-old has earned plaudits from across the world after netting his first senior international goal in the Three Lions comfortable victory in their 2022 World Cup opener.

The Borussia Dortmund star got Gareth Southgate’s side off to a dream start when he converted Luke Shaw’s stunning cross with a superb header into the top corner in the 35th minute of the match.

His goal meant he became the second youngest England goalscorer at 19 years and 145 days just behind Michael Owen, who scored twice at 1998 World Cup at 18 years old.

Irishman Keane did not mince his words, as he was effusive in his praise for the England youngster on ITV ahead of the 1-1 draw between USA and Wales.

‘Absolutely amazing, I think he is brilliant now. Absolutely brilliant, he’s made a point there about adding more goals to his game at international level, he does score at club level,’ Keane said.

‘He plays with a maturity, he’s got everything you want in a midfielder in the middle of the park in terms of his physique, his maturity, his decision making, his skill.’

When watching Bellingham’s goal back, Keane compared him to England greats such as Bryan Robson, Paul Scholes, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard.

The Irishman also compared the Borussia Dortmund star to Paul Scholes (pictured), Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard

He added: ‘This finish here is fantastic. You remember all the brilliant England midfielders over the years people like Bryan Robson, Scholesy, Lampard and Gerrard.

‘If you can add to that to your game, that final bit of adding goals. As I said I think he’s a brilliant player anyway and this is a brilliant goal.

‘In his interview afterwards he comes across as a really good kid, playing very mature. The kid has got everything.’

Keane’s remarks come after both Rio Ferdinand and former England striker Alan Shearer also showered the youngster in praise.

Shearer insisted playing in the Bundesliga has helped him develop, by saying: ‘It’s given him great experience [playing regularly for Dortmund], letting him understand the game, know the game and I think it’s worked for him perfectly and his career,’ Shearer said.

‘It’s only a matter of time before he goes on to a huge club like Real Madrid or Liverpool because that’s the talent that you’re talking about.

‘First and foremost to be an England captain you have to perform on the football pitch but the way he carries himself, the way he talks, it’s fantastic.’

Bellingham is expected to leave Dortmund in the summer with Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Liverpool among a number of European giants interested in landing the Englishman.
